  1. Adheres to the ANA standards for psychiatric nurses.
  2. Perform duties within the scope of practice as defined by the nurse practice act.
  3. Assists and consults with the registered nurse in developing daily nursing activities and providing active treatment for patients.
  4. Communicates vital signs, laboratory results and electrocardiogram results to the physician,nurse practitioner or psychiatrist.
  5. Monitors and reports the symptoms and behavior patterns of psychiatric clients.
  6. Recognizes and communicates the signs and symptoms of physical and psychiatric illness.
  7. Follows the recovery role model to prevent restraint and seclusion.
  8. Knows the use, side effects and administration procedures for psychotropic medications according to policies and safety practices.
  9. Knowledgeable on policies and procedures.
  10. Maintains competency and skills in CPR/AED, Bridge Building, IV, TB, accucheck, and Avatar.
  11. Participates on treatment team collaborating with all disciplines.
  12. Ensure that HIPPA regulations are followed to ensure patient confidentiality.
  13. Provides groups and medication education.
  14. Demonstrates an understanding of infection control practices and utilizes standard precautions.
  15. Adhere to the problem oriented documentation format.
  16. Collaborates and functions with all other team members to provide safe, effective patient care. 

Job Requirements:

  1. Licensed as a licensed practical nurse in the state of Indiana from an accredited school of nursing.  Experience in developmental disability, geriatric, or psychiatric nursing is helpful but not required.
  2. Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  3. Certified in professional rescuer CPR/AED, IV, and TB.
  4. Excel in both written and verbal interpersonal & communication skills.
  5. Must be able to work overtime.  


Difficulty of Work:

Moderate to high


Physical Effort:

Able to perform Bridge Building and Basic Life Support; able to lift 50 lbs., bend, stoop, hear within normal range.


Working Conditions:

Most of the duties are performed on the patient unit, interacting with psychiatrically ill patients


Positions and Shift Hours:

12.5 hour shifts 7:30am-9:00pm 3 days a week
